Courses Offered
The Malaysian Peacekeeping Training Centre Offers the following courses to external and foreign participants:
Methodology
Subjects are introduced through central presentations/lectures and where necessary to be followed by syndicate discussions and/or practical training. Case studies on selected UN issues and peace operations will be conducted to draw lessons learnt and promote discussion. Subject matter experts (SME) from the Armed Forces, Police, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, United Nations Department of Peacekeeping operations (UNDPKO), Norwegian Defence International Centre (NODEFIC), Centre of Excellence in Hawaii (COE), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations High Commisioneer for Refugees (UNHCR), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other agencies are invited as guest lectures.
To enhance understanding and comprehension, several field exercises are also programmed. Participants will also be privileged to meet some senior officers who have held key appointments at the UN HQ and other UN Peacekeeping Missions during forum/panel discussions. The medium of instruction for all courses is in English.
Courses/Seminar/Forum
- UN Military Observer Course
- A three-week course for officers of the rank Lt Col/Maj/Capt or equivalent and designed to train participants for UN Military Observer duties. - UN Logistics Course
- A three-week course for officers of the rank Lt Col/Maj/Capt or equivalent and designed to train and prepare officers in all aspects of UN Logistics, for participation in future peacekeeping operation. - UN Staff Duties Course
- A two week course for officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) designed to familiarise candidates in the different staff functions, UN procedures and administration. - Pre-Deployment Training (PDT)
- This is primarily an induction training imparted to the selected members of contingent before they are assigned into UN mission area. - Seminar And Forum
- The seminar/forum will examine contemporary issues affecting and influencing the nature of modern method of peacekeeping. Primarily designed for intermediate/senior level participation from the MAF, Police, Government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other Civil Departments. - Short Courses
- Specially tailored short courses on UN Peace Support Operations or other related courses as required by Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters.
