The involvement of the RMAF in the United Nations peace keeping missions started in 1989 with the deployment three officers to Namibia as military observers.

The RMAF saw another global commitment with the deployment of officers and personnel to Cambodia in January 1993. They were known as the RMAF Technical Specialist Group (TESPEG) who had the priviledge to work under the auspices of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) . They were tasked to manage some Cambodian airfields and handle their airport services.

A detachment of Nuri helicopters was also sent to help facilitate the election process in Cambodia.

The service of the RMAF was commended and based on past experience in Cambodia, the RMAF was called to give assistance manage the Mogadishu airport. The RMAF contingent was stationed in Somalia from November 1994 until March 1995.

The RMAF has one observer in Kuwait, four observers in Western Sahara three observers in Angola.
